Westworld Season 3: Behind the Scenes
Westworld is an American science fiction Western television series created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Produced by HBO, it is based on the 1973 film of the same name (written and directed by Michael Crichton) and, to a lesser extent, the film’s 1976 sequel Futureworld. Moreover, the series ranks as the most-watched first season of any HBO original series. An eight-episode third season premiered on March 15, 2020. The series has received largely positive reviews from critics, with particular praise having been given for its visuals, story, and acting.
The VFX are made by DNEG, Pixomondo, Rise VFX, Cosa VFX, Important Looking Pirates.
Westworld Season 3 Visual Effects by DNEG
DNEG worked on all 8 episodes of Westworld season 3, with significant contribution to episodes 2, 5 and 6. We provided a range of robots, vehicles, set extensions and other seamless FX work for this third season. All robots were hand-animated and then seamlessly integrated into environments. DNEG also created several destruction sequences involving an array of materials, multiple simulated explosions and photorealistic cars to replace on-set stunt cars.
