Pixomondo was also a co-producer on the film. The company previously worked with Emmerich on such films as “2012,” “Independence Day: Resurgence” and the upcoming sci-fi, “Moonfall.”
Among the interesting aspects of the Midway breakdown reel are:

-
PXO re-constructed the real-life WWII USS Enterprise, and Japanese Kaga and Akagi carriers.
-
the Enterprise model was made up of 136, 360 separate pieces and 45.2 million polygons. Using Maya crowd simulation, PXO was able to create 200 crew members exercising on the Enterprise’s deck with 11 different classes of digi-doubles.
-
PXO built the Japanese airbase at Taroa, building over 160 unique props from military buildings, watchtowers, vehicles, tents, barrels and sandbags.
Midway was on the initial Oscar VFX shortlist selection of 20 films.
