Big Ship Production Analysis by More VFX

Broken Ship Shooting Scene

50% of the entire film was taken inside and outside the ship that was stranded and stranded, and it was one of the main scenes of the film.

The scene involving the ship breaking was done in two completely different places. In the early stage, a small island in the Pacific Ocean was photographed, and the scene of the ship was replaced by a green screen. Later, it was transferred to Qingdao for shooting. At the shooting site, a broken ship on the beach was built. In all aspects of the use of green screen shooting, MORE VFX visual effects artists need to restore the entire ship by CG technology.

Broken Ship Model

The design of the ship closure is quite large and the production level requirements are also very high. The large ship that has been cut off from the waist, the exposed cabins on the section, and the surface of the ship are required to be refined, which makes it difficult for MORE VFX visual effects artists.

In the production of large-scale scene assets, the artists will first divide the area and create the partitions, so that the ideas will be much clearer when making. The difficulty in making it is how the size of the scene and the real shot are to be docked in the CG scene. These must be fully prepared and communicated effectively before production begins.

Boat Skin Production

The idea of the artists when making the boat skin is to directly topologically on the original design, so that it can be as large as large. The ship’s skin is a reference to the reality of the ship’s skin welded by a large piece of iron, which is better spliced by several large pieces of iron model.

Next, make a large frame in the front of the room. Make a single piece of iron before making a large frame, and then copy and splicing into a variety of room styles.

Finally, the bottom is scanned and the files are completely restored, and the ship’s skin is finished.

Material Mapping Stage

The MORE VFX visual effects artist combines a large number of real-time photo materials on the scene to make a ship-breaking texture map.

The production of the material is based on the actual photo taken on the spot, combined with the concept design drawing and a large number of real stranded and broken ships for reference.

The material of the small room is made according to the real shot room. The connection between different rooms and the connection between the room and the hull are excessive. Finally, the splicing is completely adjusted.

The visual effect of the ship breaking process takes about 3 months from the model to the material production. The details can be described as excellence. MORE VFX’s visual effects artists all want to present the best results on the big screen, providing the best visual experience for the audience.
