The Letter for the King Matte Paintings Work by Mattescape Studios

The Letter for the King is a Netflix Fantasy series created by William Davies based on a book by the Dutch writer Tonke Dragt. In the series, we follow a young squire that holds the fate of the kingdom in his hands as he embarks on a quest to deliver a secret message to the king. Mattescape Studios was tasked to create photo-realistic matte paintings of the Monastery at the End of the World. VFX by UNIT Tv & Film.

Set in a fantasy world, the Monastery at the End of the World is located high up in the mountains. Surrounded by sharp rock and snow the task was to create an unfriendly and hostile environment where the Monastery is the only safe place to seek refuge.

A sudden avalanche hits the main characters. We created set extensions with winter forests and debris of trees and snow.
