Advanced ZBrush 2018 for Animation & VFX production
In this ZBrush Master Class we will be covering the ZBrush toolset for creating creatures and characters in a VFX or Animation pipeline. There will be a specific focus on those new tools for ZBrush 2018 which apply to a character workflow such as Booleans, VDM brushes, and LazyMouse 2.0. We will also delve into texture, painting, and design using ZBrush and Dynamesh together. These techniques are production tested in film such as The Hobbit as well as Pacific Rim II. The instructor will also tailor the content to address specific questions and requests of the attendees as to what topics they most want to see covered. This course is most applicable for advanced ZBrush users interested in using the tools in a pipeline scenario.
This course is intended for beginners and intermediate ZBrush users. The course will focus on concept, modeling and texture painting for character work. Users need to have a basic understanding of ZBrush. Photoshop experience is a plus but not required.
CreatureFX Masterclass
Take your characters from static beings to something more real using cloth and hair simulation for CG assets. Learn the ins and outs of Maya’s nCloth and nHair systems as used for digital assets starting with a static model at the origin and moving on through to fully animated characters for shot production. In this session participants will learn how to create Maya’s Nucleus systems for running cloth and hair simulations. Solver attributes for nCloth and nHair will be covered as well as common workflow practices for simulating static and animated digital assets. This class is taught with film in mind but can have application for other areas of 3D entertainment.
Professionals and graduates with a solid knowledge of Maya.
Naturalist approach of creatures in CGI
Modeling photo realistic animals in CG is aimed by a lot of studios. Having a deep understanding of anatomy is really important to make sure to produce high-quality assets. Gael Kerchenbaum, animal and creature anatomy expert, presents you his modeling and texturing approach. Gael is modeling from the inside out, making accurate skeletons, écorchés and skin models to reflect the real world. During this Masterclass, he will guide you through his workflow, and how to prepare your sculpture for the technical requirements of modern pipeline environments. You’ll learn how to create an animal that looks scientifically correct, with technics inspired from medicine and classical sculptors. You will be introduced on how to put the artist back in the center of your production environment, and how to minimize the technical requirements so you or your team can focus mostly on the artistic aspect of the work. You’ll be guided through different archetypes of the animal kingdom (Digitigrade, Unguligrade and Plantigrade) and how to make them in CG. Finally, Gael will present his procedural approach of texturing which allows to automate the production of creatures.
This masterclass is for Artists already set with human anatomy knowledge. This class has been made for junior to senior level artists. It can also be attended by Cg supervisors from small to large studios. The workflow presented are for VFX, Animation and Games industries. Attendees will need to know how to model and texture. ZBrush and Mari will be used during the class. This course is not about the basics of anatomy. It will introduce advanced anatomy notions for the pipeline of quadrupeds.
